Hi!
Quite interesting article about data backup. Do you already use this software? Because I think this kind of data backup is quite outdated. Optical media can easily be damaged by scratches e.g. I can say so, because I’m a student and it happened not just once to me, that my files on CD or DVD where gone because of damages on the disc’s data side.
But it’s really important that my files are stored secure and accessible all the time, so I changed from optical media and flash drives to Online Backup.
I searched the web for a list of Online Backup providers and found this site, where the top ten providers are listed: http://www.onlinebackupguide.com/the-top-ten-online-backup-services
I think anyone who had similiar problems with CDs or DVDs would benefit from this information, because it’s easy to use, affordable and reliable.
I don’t use the product. I’m still using Retrospect (which has its own set of issues).
And I don’t use online backup services, too.
Proper backup and archival strategy should include a number of different processes.
Since, as you pointed out, discs (optical or magnetic) can go bad, it’s important for me to create generational backups onto different media.
Aloha,
